Thomaston-Upson County schools under lockdown, not an active shooter situation

A gun scare prompted a lockdown at all schools in the Thomaston-Upson County district.

Around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, a high school parent called the school and claimed her child saw a gun in the bathroom.

The school resource officer responded and called the sheriff’s office to investigate.

The investigation found that a student had a handheld massager that resembled a handgun.

The student admitted that he pointed it at another student in the boys bathroom, according to the sheriff’s office.

The school confirmed that everyone is safe and there is no active shooter on property, despite rumors going around on social media.

Officials are working to lift the lockdown before the schools let out for the afternoon.
